Magnolia Connection provides individual and family therapy services for children, adolescents, and young adults. Therapy is beneficial for a range of presenting concerns, including ADHD, autism, behavior disorders, anxiety, eating/feeding, LGBTQ+ identity, and trauma for ages 3-25 years old.

Our providers offer evidence-based treatment including parent-child interaction therapy PCIT), eye movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy (EMDR), synergetic sand play therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, family therapy, and social skills groups.

Our providers recognize the importance of inclusion and understand that many children and families feel minimized, rejected and/or unseen in our divided world. Therapy offers a unique space for healing by meeting the client right where they are. Your child’s therapist can also assist in supporting accommodations as part of a 504 Plan or IEP.

If you are interested in scheduling an initial evaluation to pursue therapy services, you may complete the intake packet found here. Once the packet has been submitted, we will contact you to schedule the initial evaluation appointment.

If you have questions regarding any of our services, connect with us to share what you are looking for in regards to testing on our website under “Get in touch” or by calling us at (515) 994-8255.

Frequently Asked Questions

The first few sessions will involve an evaluation of the client’s needs and goals of therapy. By the end of the evaluation process, the provider will work collaboratively with the client and family members to determine the treatment goals and how they will be addressed in therapy.

Therapeutic relationships are in fact a relationship. The provider will do their best to cater the treatment strategy and goals to the client’s needs, and children and families are encouraged to ask questions and voice concerns if they arise.  If the family or provider do not feel it is a good fit to move forward, then alternative therapy providers will be offered.

Absolutely! Therapy can be viewed as a privilege, and we are blessed to have access to therapy services in our community.  Therapy can be helpful in addressing acute issues that arise, but it is also powerful when the client is in a stable space where they can work to promote healthy coping strategies, better connect with their experiences, and improve healthy relationships with others.

Following the initial appointment, you and your child will be offered an available time slot for therapy. These appointments generally begin weekly, and may eventually transition to bi-weekly as goals are met.

PCIT is an evidence-based treatment for young children with behavioral problems. PCIT is conducted through “coaching” sessions during which you and your child are in a playroom while the therapist is in an observation room watching you interact with your child through a one-way mirror. You wear a “bug-in-the-ear” device through which the therapist provides in-the-moment coaching on skills you are learning to manage your child’s behavior. The first phase targets the relationship between parent and child and the second phase addresses challenging behaviors. Find out more here.

EMDR is an evidence-based, structured therapy that allows clients to focus on challenging thoughts and memories through the development of mindfulness strategies, tolerance of emotions, and an integrated narrative that allows them to reflect on the experiences from a different perspective. There are unique tools and strategies that help to translate this treatment to even young children. Find out more here.

Yes, we offer social skills groups for children ages 8-12 to promote skills, including emotional and self regulation and social skills, on Tuesdays from 4-5:30 PM. We will also be offering various parent support groups. Contact us for more information or to get placed on our waitlist.
