Esther Huston, PMHNP (she/her/hers)
Board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
As a doctorally prepared, board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, I am dedicated to providing holistic, trauma-informed care to individuals across the lifespan. I am passionate about honoring each patient’s unique life experiences and “season of life,” and strive to create a compassionate, patient-centered environment grounded in clinical excellence.
My journey into mental health care is deeply personal. Having experienced the foster care system firsthand, I have seen how early adversity shapes development and resilience. These experiences have fueled my commitment to trauma-informed practice and to supporting patients in identifying their strengths, fostering healing, and building hope.
I earned my Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Iowa State University and my Associate in Nursing from Mercy College of Health Sciences. I completed both my Doctor of Nursing Practice and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner training at the University of Iowa. In addition, I am a graduate of the University of Iowa’s Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (LEND) program, including advanced training in parent mentorship, disability policy, integrated systems design, and advocacy for individuals with disabilities and neurodiverse diagnoses. I am also certified as a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner by the State of Iowa.
My clinical experience includes working with individuals navigating trauma, neurodevelopmental differences, and complex healthcare systems. I have a special interest in supporting women during the perinatal period, providing compassionate mental health care throughout pregnancy and postpartum. I am committed to collaborating with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams to develop individualized, evidence-based treatment plans that support emotional, social, and developmental well-being.
Outside of my clinical practice and systems-level improvement work, I cherish time with my husband, children, grandchildren, friends, and our spirited Aussie doodle, Wrigley. I enjoy nature hikes, outdoor concerts, gardening, and curling up with a good book.
I am grateful to serve the Iowa community I call home and am honored to walk alongside patients from all backgrounds on their journey toward healing and wellness. I joined Magnolia Connection in the Fall of 2025 and serve clients in the Norwalk office.
